WHATEVER – Why it saves the day
The word *whatever* sounds when there is no energy to argue. When silence is better than explanation. If you don’t care. Or when the other party has long since lost the right to waste your time.
This is where this T-shirt started.
When is “whatever” the honest answer?
At some point, it’s no longer a question of what you feel, but what you’re willing to put yourself through in the first place. Drama, gossip, empty talk, the next “emergency” that could have been solved yesterday – the answer to everything else is: *whatever*.
But to keep things interesting, here’s how it got on the T-shirt:
WHAT
EVER
The top line is the question: *what? What is it that is being offered to me now?* The bottom line is the answer: *always, ever, forever – whatever*. Two words that together form indifference, but taken apart tell a completely different story.
We don’t have to save every little ‘fire’. We don’t have to react to every provocation.
Selective indifference
I’m not making this t-shirt to encourage indifference. On the contrary-— I want to normalizeoptionalindifference.
I think most burnout starts when we react to whatever is thrown at us. Every message needs a response, every opinion needs a position, every conflict needs participation. But no need. Sometimes the strongest action is not to react.
This t-shirt is the epitome of that act. A small, peaceful riot. Option not to answer. The ability to not take everything personally.
It’s in the same spirit as Shift Theory’s “Presence Is Louder Than Noise” design – silence as strength, not weakness. But if “Presence” is about presence, “Whatever” is about choice: not everyone deserves your presence.
What it carries
When you wear this T-shirt, you don’t tell the world “I’m all about clay”. You rather say:“I choose what I spend my nerves and time on.”
You listen. You nod. You pretend you’re really interested. But actually, you’ve had that one word for a long time. Not disparagingly, but in self-defense.
The purpose of this T-shirt is to bring out the inner voice without having to explain anything to anyone at length. As is Not Here to Explain – only it’s its quieter, ironic brother.
How to read it
If you see someone wearing this t-shirt, don’t take it as “I like you”. It is rather:“I keep myself because the world won’t do it for me.”
And if you put it on yourself, there’s a pretty good chance that you’ve had the word in your head for years. I just printed it out and stuck it on a t-shirt.
Design and fabric selection
Black or white. White text on black fabric, black text on white fabric. Minimal because this word doesn’t need decoration – it needs space.
Also available with a reflective design (+5€), which means that in the dark your WHAT EVER shines against every passerby. Think of it this way: during the day it’s private, at night it’s public.
The fabric is Tee Jays Sof Tee – 185 g/m² combed ring-spun cotton, double collar with elastane, double stitching. On request, also Interlock or Pima Cotton fabric. Sizes S to 2XL, made to order, €30. Free delivery from €50.
