Most t-shirts are made from single jersey. It works, it is light, and it is cheaper to produce. But it is not the best fabric option available.

Interlock is the upgrade most people have never tried – mostly because most brands do not offer it. We do.

What Interlock Is, and Why It Is Different

Single jersey is knitted with one needle bed. It has a clear front and back side and can twist over time.

Interlock is knitted on two needle beds at once, effectively locking two layers into one stable structure. Both sides look and feel similar, and the fabric behaves more consistently after wash and wear.

That one structural difference changes fit stability, drape, and lifespan.

What You Actually Feel in Interlock

Breathability. People assume heavier knit means hotter wear. In practice, quality cotton interlock can ventilate very well thanks to its knit geometry.

Two-way stretch with recovery. The fabric moves with you and returns to shape instead of bagging out.

Smoother contact on skin. No harsh “wrong side” feel; both sides are clean and balanced.

Shape retention. Interlock resists edge twisting and keeps the cut cleaner over repeated washes.

Longer wear life. A denser double-knit generally handles daily use better than cheaper lightweight alternatives.

Tee Jays Interlock – Exact Spec

Our Interlock options use Tee Jays model 520 (men) and 580 (women).

100% combed ring-spun organic cotton.

220 g/m2. Substantial without becoming stiff or heavy.

Enzyme + silicone wash. Cleaner surface, softer hand feel.

Double pre-shrunk treatment. Better size stability after washing.

Oeko-Tex Standard 100. Tested for harmful substances.

Washable at 60 C. Practical for real everyday use.

Why Not Every Brand Uses It

Simple answer: cost and complexity. Interlock is more expensive to knit and finish than standard single jersey. Most brands avoid it because buyers are used to cheaper basics.
