There are people who say “I need a holiday”, then take their laptop along, answer emails on the beach, check orders in the evening and call it work-life balance.
We are trying not to do that this summer.
The Blacksunset online shop will be closed from 10 June to 15 September.
Not for good.
Not because something has gone wrong.
Not because Blacksunset is disappearing.
Simply because sometimes the person who makes the shirts, packs the orders, answers the emails, comes up with new messages and eventually photographs them too needs to go away for a while.
Properly away.
Somewhere the day starts with coffee, not notifications. Where your shoes get dusty. Where the sun takes its time going down and nobody asks whether their tracking number is active yet.

Before the break, there is one more thing.
Until 10 June, T-shirts are 25% off in the Blacksunset online shop.
Tote bags, accessories and colourful T-shirts are excluded.
If something has caught your eye, this is a pretty good time to get it. After that, “later” means September.
Why close the shop at all?
Because Blacksunset is not a giant machine where an order drops in at one end and a finished parcel comes out at the other.
Blacksunset is a small brand. A very personal one.
There is no point pretending everything happens in some sterile logistics centre where ten people move boxes around the clock. Behind Blacksunset is a person who sees each shirt as a thought put onto fabric.
Not a big logo.
Not a shout of “look at me”.
More like a small poster on someone’s chest.
Some shirts are funny. Some are dry. Some are a little uncomfortably accurate. Some say something you might not feel like explaining yourself.
And sometimes those thoughts come from somewhere other than a computer screen.
The street.
An airport.
A café.
The beach.
That moment when you have walked 15 kilometres through an unfamiliar city and realise you are finally out of your own head for a while.
Blacksunset has travelled before
If you read the Blacksunset blog, you probably know that some of these shirts do not live only in product photographs.
They actually come along.
One of the best examples is “5 Cool Facts About Estonia”.
That shirt did not start out as a travel shirt. It was more a piece of dry Estonian humour. Something to make an Estonian smile and leave someone from elsewhere wondering for a moment whether any of it is actually true.
Then Prague happened.
Near Charles Bridge, someone stopped, read the shirt and started laughing. Someone came over in a café. In the street, people asked where they could get it. After three days it was clear that this was not just a shirt. It was a conversation starter, and all the person wearing it had to do was walk.
Later, the same thing happened in Málaga.
Valencia.
Rome.
Pisa.
Venice.
Some people wanted to know where Estonia even was. Some wanted to know whether it really was that cold here. Others just laughed and said it was the best shirt they had seen that day.
Those moments do not happen in an office.

They happen when you are in an unfamiliar city, walking too much, camera in hand, the sun getting lower, and a complete stranger reads your shirt.
Porto stayed with me
Then there is Porto.
Porto is a thing of its own.
It does not feel like a neat travel destination you can tick off a list in three days. Porto needs time. It needs mornings when you do not yet know where you will walk. Stairs you had not planned to climb. The Douro River, the Dom Luís I Bridge, old trams, blue azulejo tiles and streets where the light comes around a corner as though someone had placed it there by hand.
And then, of course, the ocean.
That moment when you reach Foz do Douro, or simply somewhere along the Atlantic where the city ends and the sea begins. Everything suddenly becomes simpler. Not necessarily easier, but simpler.
You do not need to say much there.
That is where the other side of Blacksunset comes from. The side beyond black fabric and white text. The one with sunsets, the beach, retro surf, “Summer ’72”, the sea, warm light and a feeling that perhaps life does not have to be quite so practical all the time.
Perhaps a shirt can simply remind you of a moment when the sun touched the water and that was enough.

One sentence at Porto Airport
One of my favourite Blacksunset travel moments happened at Porto Airport.
I was wearing “I Woke Up In Someone Else’s Dream”.
At security, someone looked at the shirt, read it and asked:
“Did you really wake up in someone else’s dream?”
I said:
“Yes.”
They asked:
“Where?”
I replied:
“In Porto.”
They asked:
“How was it?”
I replied:
“Absolutely amazing.”
They smiled and said:
“Come back.”
It was a small moment. Perhaps twenty seconds. But those are exactly the moments that stay with you.

Airports are not usually places where people really talk. There are belts, trays, liquids, queues, checks and that collective exhaustion where everyone just wants to get through.
But one sentence on a shirt briefly made the whole situation human.
That is why Blacksunset exists in the first place.
Not to print random words on fabric.
But for a few words to create a real moment.
A holiday is not a luxury. It is fuel.
We are used to thinking of a holiday as something we have to earn.
When everything is done.
When every email has been answered.
When every order has gone out.
When all the plans are in place.
When everything is finally under control.
The problem is that everything is never done.
There is always one more thing. One more order. One more product photo to fix. One more piece of text. One more campaign. One more idea that could be improved.
Then one day you realise summer has passed as though someone briefly let a little yellow light through the window and then pulled the curtain shut.
We do not want to do that this year.
This summer, we are going away.
To Porto. To Portugal. Perhaps another city too. We will see where our feet, the sun and reasonably priced accommodation take us.
The plan will probably involve long walks, coffee, street photography, the ocean, evening light, a few overly long work conversations with myself and that very specific feeling that I have left a browser window open back in Estonia. It can stay open.
Blacksunset is taking a break.

Not because a brand needs a holiday.
A brand does not need anything. People do.
What does this mean for you?
Simple.
If you want something from Blacksunset before autumn, order before 10 June.

After that, the online shop will be closed until 15 September.
Until 10 June, T-shirts are 25% off.
Tote bags, accessories and colourful T-shirts are excluded.
And because these are the last orders before the break, one honest warning belongs here too.
Some sizes, colours or styles may sell out before we leave. The system may still allow an order, but in real life supplies are not endless. If that happens, we will get in touch and find a solution: change the option, offer an alternative or refund your payment.
It is not ideal.
But honesty works better than a pretty lie.
We will be back in September
- We will be back in September.
Probably a little more tanned. A little calmer. Perhaps with new ideas. Perhaps with a new shirt that would never have existed if we had spent the whole summer trying to stay “always open”.
Because some ideas do not arrive when you sit at a computer and force yourself to be productive.
Some arrive when you sit by the ocean and do nothing useful for a while.
Or when you walk through an unfamiliar city and someone reads your shirt.
Or when the sun goes down and, for a moment, the world seems to want nothing from you.
Or when you realise that sometimes the most sensible business decision is to close the shop and go and live.
So yes.
Blacksunset is closing the shop.
But not for good.
Just for the summer.
T-shirts are 25% off until 10 June.
We are on our summer break from 10 June to 15 September.
Tote bags, accessories and colourful T-shirts are excluded.
If a particular message has been on your mind for a while, do not wait until September.
We will be back in September.
But summer waits for no one.
